小柴胡汤 / Xiao Chai Hu Tang

Shaoyang Formula comes from Treatise on Febrile Diseases” written by Zhang Zhongjing in the late Eastern Han Dynasty in China and has been in clinical use for more than 1800 years. It is a well-known reconcile prescription for the treatment of Shaoyang Syndrome. The so-called Shaoyang syndrome is caused by Zheng Qi in the body to resist external Evils after the Evils have invaded the body. Or it can be interpreted as a Syndrome of external Evil invading Gallbladder and causes Stagnation of Meridian Qi. Because the formula has the actions of supporting Zheng Qi and eliminating Evils, it is both offensive and tonifying. Clinical practice in the past 2,000 years has shown that if you only have one of the following symptoms, you can take the formulation: cold and fever appear alternately, the chest is full, loss of appetite, upset and sick, bitter taste in the mouth, wiry pulse.

Modern research believes that it has the action of protecting the Liver and Gallbladder, is antipyretic and anti-inflammatory, bacteriostatic and anti-viral, anti-allergic. It can not only prevent colds and flu but also improve the body’s immunity. It is also commonly used for chronic fatigue, unexplained fever, menstrual fever, internal injuries and other diseases.

Shaoyang Formula also has the effects of smoothing the Liver and Gallbladder, regulating the Spleen and Stomach and is particularly suitable for those suffering from gastrointestinal colds, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, liver function disorder.
